Morning Report: Cody Garbrandt says he's 'going to have some f**king words' with TJ Dillashaw

Esther Lin

It seems that Cody Garbrandt has "no love" for his former teammate TJ Dillashaw.

In an interview with Submission Radio, the UFC bantamweight prospect spoke about Dillashaw's departure from Team Alpha Male and subsequent comments made by the former UFC champion about Garbrandt wanting to train with Dillashaw at Elevation Fight Team.

"I heard him talking shit. No. See that's some f**ked up shit. I almost saw him at the Arnold Classic when I was there signing shit and had to go say some shit to him but on my better judgement, I didn't...Anyways, long story short, no that was f**ked up. What he was trying to do was recruit people. Go out there, take them from their teams to go and help him.'

Last October, then bantamweight champion Dillashaw separated from Garbrandt and the rest of his long time team members at Team Alpha Male to train with coach Duane Ludwig at Elevation Fight Team in Colorado. Some of the Team Alpha Male fighters were amicable about the split but Cody Garbrandt is not one of them.

"TJ, that motherf**ker tried to take some of our teammates you know...If our team ain't good enough for you motherf**ker then get the f**k out. Don't be trying to take our team, take our training partners if you don't believe our team is good. That shit pisses me off man. That's some f**ked up shit.'

In the aftermath of the split, several prominent Team Alpha Male fighters have been spending time at Elevation including Joseph Benavidez and Lance Palmer. Urijah Faber has reportedly banned Dillashaw from returning to Team Alpha Male which has lead to speculation that Palmer and Benavidez may be soon to follow Dillashaw's lead. This coupled with remarks made by Dillashaw about Garbrandt moving to Team Alpha Male bothered Garbrandt.

"Then he wants to say some shit about my uncle. Like ‘oh he left his family to come out here.' Hey stupid motherf**ker my uncle comes out here, trains me, comes to the fights, I never left him. I know what loyalty is dude...Don't ever say I left my family dude. That's some bullshit. You left your family and your friends here to go to Denver, Colo. and look what that got you. You got your ass beat."

It is possible that, as Dillashaw has speculated, the reason for Garbrandt's ire is the fact they are in the same weight class. Dillashaw is the top-ranked bantamweight contender and Garbrandt is No. 15. But Garbrandt is looking to make a run up the division and at the title when he headlines UFC Fight Night 88 on May 29 against No. 7-ranked Thomas Almeida.

"Yeah definitely. It'll put me right up there with a knock out win over Thomas Almeida. I think that I should get a title shot."

Almeida is undefeated and, like Garbrandt, one of the brightest prospects in the UFC but even with a spectacular performance, an immediate title shot seems unlikely for Garbrandt. However a win could set Garbrandt up for a title elminator, possibly even against Dillashaw. But whether or not such a fight materializes, Garbrandt made it clear that Dillashaw had crossed a line with him.

"I'm sure the next time I see him we are gonna have some f**king words for sure."

Rest in Peace. MMA fighter Joao Carvalho died after a TKO loss in Ireland.

Don't you put that evil on me. Anthony Johnson says he never accepted a fight with Jon Jones at UFC 197.

Now Joseph Benavidez doesn't have to sneak in. The UFC cancels the planned open tryouts for season 24 of TUF which were to take place in 2 weeks.

Abject sadness. UFC Hall of Famer BJ Penn will return to the cage against Dennis Siver at UFC 199.

Bargaining. Cat Zingano thinks her loss to Ronda Rousey was a good thing in the long run.

Let's play monopoly! Former FTC commissioner talks about FTC investigations into the UFC.

PEDestals. Eric Stinton of talks about the prevalence of PEDs in MMA and the failures of commisions.

Everything about this is great. Ronda gets way too into animal sex lives and completely takes the fantasy sports question to a whole new place. Amazing.

Here's Glover putting hands on Ryan Bader to get you hyped for this upcoming weekend.

And here is the fight that precipitated the rematch literally no one wanted but we will be getting anyway.

Money Mayweather coming for the UFC. Look for MMMMA Promotions to be partnering with Bellator soon I'm sure.

Tommy Toe Hold out here breaking down Zagreb.

Look he is probably going to get merc'd by Jon Jones but thre's no denying OSP is an athletic specimen. Those one legged box jumps were dope.

The guys discuss PR struggles and Frank Mir's incredible excuse for his failed urine sample (he said it came from kangaroo meat).

Nick talks to Matt Hughes and Justin Wren. Definitely worth a listen.

Submission radio has flyweight champ Demetrius Johnson as well as heavyweight contender Stone Cold Stipe Miocic.

Conor on the death of Joao Carvalho who died after fighting Conor's teammate on SBG Charlie Ward.

Jon Jones is relentless.

Presented without comment.

For those who don't know, Ed Ruth was a legit college wrestler. 3 time national champion at Penn State. After failing to make the Olympic team this past weekend (in a stacked weight division) it appears he is full steam ahead with his Bellator debut plans. As blue chip of a prospect as they come.

Good thing that chart shows the last 6 fights instead of the last 7 or else Werdum's would have a red box with Overeem's face in it. Arbitrary endpoints ftw!
