Conor McGregor may have lost to Nate Diaz at UFC 196, but he still made history in other ways. McGregor became the first UFC fighter to pull in a seven-figure fight purse on Saturday night, earning $1,000,000 despite succumbing to a second-round rear-naked choke at the hands of Diaz, according to figures released to MMA Fighting by the Nevada Athletic Commission.
Diaz, a late replacement for the injured UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos, pocketed a $500,000 payday in victory, joining former UFC women's bantamweight champion Holly Holm ($500,000) among the top earners of the card. Holm suffered a stunning defeat to Miesha Tate ($92,000) in the night's co-main event, forfeiting her belt via fifth-round submission.
UFC 196 took place March 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV. The main card is expected to be one of the highest-selling pay-per-views in UFC history.
Aside from the three featured fighters, UFC veteran Diego Sanchez was the only other fighter to hit the six-figure mark in winnings. Sanchez earned $150,000 for his slump-busting unanimous decision victory over Jim Miller, which headlined the UFC Fight Pass prelims portion of the card.
In addition to their commission-reported salaries, Diaz (x2), McGregor, and Tate all took home $50,000 fight night bonuses for their performances.
A complete list of the UFC 196 salaries can be seen below. As always, these figures do not represent a fighter's total earnings, as certain sponsorship incomes, pay-per-view bonuses, or discretionary post-fight bonuses are not publicly disclosed.
