Angela Lee faces Mei Yamaguchi to crown first-ever ONE women's champion

ONE Championship

ONE Championship is set to crown its first-ever women's champion.

Top prospect Angela Lee will take on sturdy veteran Mei Yamaguchi for the 115-pound women's title at ONE: Ascent to Power on May 6 in Singapore, MMA Fighting confirmed Thursday with promotion officials. Singapore's The New Paper was the first to report the news.

Lee (5-0), one of the top female prospects in mixed martial arts, has won all five of her pro fights by submission, every single one of them with ONE. The Hawaii native is coming off a second-round neck crank victory over Rebecca Heintzman in February. Lee, 19, has been training MMA for all her life under her coach and father Ken. She now fights out of Evolve MMA in Singapore, the birthplace of her father's family.

Yamaguchi (15-8-1) has won three in a row for DEEP Jewels, where she is the 105-pound champion. The Japanese fighter is coming off a grand prix tournament victory in May 2015, defeating Mina Kurobe and Satomi Takano in the same night. Yamaguchi, 33, has been a pro since 2007 with fights against the likes of Megumi Fujii, Seo Hee Ham and Ayaka Hamasaki.

No other fights have been announced for ONE: Ascent to Power. The event will take place at ONE's home base, Singapore Indoor Stadium.
