Nearly two weeks after his Bellator debut against Kimbo Slice, Dada 5000 has been released from the hospital.
The news comes from a representative of Dada 5000's camp, who posted an update Wednesday on the heavyweight's Facebook page.
"Dada 5000 has been released from the Hospital and is now back home in South Florida," the message stated. "He wants all his supporters to know he appreciates them and is nothing without them. He will soon be available to tell his story."
Dada 5000, aka Dhafir Harris, suffered cardiac arrest in the aftermath of his Feb. 19 bout against Slice at Bellator 149 in Houston, Texas. Harris also suffered a broken orbital bone in the contest, which he lost via third-round TKO, as well as "severe dehydration, fatigue and renal failure" after attempting to cut nearly 40 pounds over the span of a few months, according to a family statement.
Billy Corben, the director of the Dawg Fight documentary which spotlighted Harris and the backyard fighting scene in Miami, recently said Harris "absolutely" almost died from health complications during and after the bout, until making a "miraculous" recovery.
"As it turns out, he was dying," Corben told Miami's Zaslow Show. "His body was shutting down during that fight, having nothing whatsoever to do with his fight training, but with his nutrition and dietary issues.
"Even as his body was completely betraying him and shutting down, Dada's fists never stopped trying to move toward Kimbo Slice. It was pretty remarkable, knowing what we know now what happened Friday night and the amount of heart and perseverance and not giving up that Dada displayed was nothing short of miraculous."
Bellator 149 took place at the Toyota Center and aired lived on Spike TV. The broadcast peaked at 2.7 million viewers during the grudge match between Slice and Harris (2-1), a fight which ultimately marked Harris' fight professional loss in MMA.
