Veteran referee Herb Dean will once again be the third man in the cage when Daniel Cormier puts his UFC light heavyweight championship on the line against Jon Jones at UFC 197.
The Nevada Athletic Commission unanimously appointed Dean for the role at a Wednesday meeting in Las Vegas.
Dean officiated the first fight between Cormier and Jones, which took place Jan. 2015 and saw Jones retain his light heavyweight title via unanimous decision.
Cormier, via the phone, registered a complaint regarding Dean overseeing the rematch, stating that he felt Dean allowed Jones to stall the action in the later rounds. Cormier's complaint was noted by the commission, however Dean's position was upheld.
Dean will be joined by ringside judges Sal D'Amato, Junichiro Kamijo, Chris Lee.
The night's co-main event, which features Demetrious Johnson defending his UFC flyweight title against Henry Cejudo, will be overseen by veteran referee John McCarthy. McCarthy, like Dean, was unanimously appointed Tuesday.
UFC 197 takes place April 23, 2016 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main card airs live on pay-per-view.
