The UFC is targeting a bantamweight showdown between Cody Garbrandt and Thomas Almeida for the main event of May 29's UFC Fight Night 88 event in Las Vegas.
A source close to the situation confirmed the news to MMAFighting after an initial tweet from John Morgan broke the news.
Combined, the two young bantamweights boast a spotless 28-0 record, with 23 of those victories coming via knockout.
At 24, Team Alpha Male's Garbrandt is 3-0 in UFC action and 8-0 overall, with his most recent victory – a first-round knockout of Augusto Mendes – coming Feb. 21 at UFC Fight Night 83 in Pittsburgh.
Almeida, also 24, is 4-0 in the UFC and, like Garbrandt, the highly touted Brazilian is coming off a first-round knockout victory. He most recently took out Anthony Birchak at Nov. 7's UFC Fight Night 77 event.
