Metamoris may have taken a year off, but it is far from dead. The jiu-jitsu promotion on Friday announced a rematch between Marcus "Buchecha" Almeida and Roger Gracie to headline Metamoris 7 on July 17 in Los Angeles, Calif.
In addition, the card is expected to feature UFC fighters Gabriel Gonzaga and Gilbert Burns rolling against Satoshi Ishii and Dillon Danis, respectively; Metamoris creator Ralek Gracie vs. Tim Spriggs; Matheus Diniz vs. Yuri Simoes; along with a secret match to be unveiled on fight night.
Almeida and Gracie are two of the most decorated grapplers in the sport. The pair met once before in the headlining match of Metamoris' inaugural event in Oct. 2012. After 20 minutes of back-and-forth action, the bout ended in a draw, as Metamoris rules dictate the only way to win a match is by submission.
Gonzaga (17-10) and Burns (10-1) are the latest in a long line of UFC fighters to test their skills under the Metamoris umbrella, following in the footsteps of Chael Sonnen, Josh Barnett, Rory MacDonald, and several others before them. Both men are jiu-jitsu black belts, with 15 shared submission wins in MMA between them.
As with past Metamoris events, Metamoris 7 is expected to stream via online pay-per-view. Tickets go on sale March 21.
