Renan Barao has decided to move up to the featherweight division, and will make his 145-pound debut against Jeremy Stephens on May 29, multiple sources confirmed with MMA Fighting on Thursday.
Combate was the first to report the news. The UFC has yet to make a formal announcement.
UFC Fight Night 88 is scheduled for May 29, but the promotion has yet to announce a location and venue for the event.
Barao (33-3, 1 NC) racked up a 10-2 record as a bantamweight under the UFC and WEC banner, defeating the likes of Urijah Faber (twice), Eddie Wineland and Michael McDonald before losing the UFC 135-pound title to T.J. Dillashaw.
Stephens (24-12) has his back against the wall after losing three of his last four fights, dropping to 4-3 since moving from lightweight to featherweight. "Lil' Heathen" holds an 11-11 UFC record, including a knockout win over current lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos.
