Alex Nicholson (6-2) proposed to his girlfriend on Friday at the UFC Fight Night 82 weigh-ins. On Saturday, he fractured his jaw and will likely require surgery.

Such is the life of an MMA professional.

The UFC debutant tapped out to a rear-naked choke/neck crank Saturday evening at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, but his surrender was not quick enough to save him from injury.

Cageside microphones caught a snapping sound as Nicholson's opponent, Misha Cirkunov, began to crank the submission, prompting analyst Brian Stann to speculate that Nicholson had broken his jaw.

As UFC Vice President of Public Relations Dave Sholler informed media at the UFC Fight Night 82 post-fight press conference, Stann was correct in his evaluation.

"Nicholson has a jaw fracture, likely to require surgery," Sholler said.

There is no current timetable for Nicholson's surgery or recovery.

The loss snapped a five-fight winning streak for Nicholson and marked the first time he had been finished as a professional.
