Stephen Thompson shocked the crowd in attendance at UFC Fight Night 82 by becoming the first man to knock out former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks. That knockout earned him a well-deserved $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus.

The news was announced by the UFC at the post-fight press conference.

Thompson (12-1) proved he's a top contender in the UFC's welterweight division by effectively utilizing his range and accurate striking against the number two ranked welterweight in the UFC. "Wonderboy" mixed kicks and punches to back up Hendricks against the cage and eventually get the knockout at 3:31 of round one.

Diego Rivas, who opened the preliminary card on Fox Sports 1, earned the other $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus after blasting his opponent Noad Lahat with a flying knee that sent him straight to the canvas in round two. With that knee, the Chilean Rivas notched one of the best comebacks of the night as he was completely out grappled by Lahat in the first round.

In the first fight of the main card, Mike Pyle and Sean Spencer each earned $50,000 after earning the Fight of the Night award. Both fighters hurt each other and had great moments in the fight. However, the fight veteran Pyle was able to walk away with the victory after landing a vicious spinning elbow followed with a series of knees that forced the referee to stop the fight at 4:25 of round three.
