Alex Nicholson is going to have a hard act to follow Saturday night.
The UFC newcomer dropped to a knee Friday and proposed to his girlfriend on stage before weighing in for UFC Fight Night: Hendricks vs. Thompson. Nicholson meets Misha Cirkunov on the main card of Saturday's event in Las Vegas.
We've seen fighters propose to their girlfriends after fights. Benson Henderson did it after a lightweight title fight in 2013. But at weigh-ins? Nicholson was the first.
Nicholson came on stage with his girlfriend, undressed and gave her the clothes. But before stepping on the scale, he turned back around, pulled out a red box, dropped to a knee and revealed a ring. She appeared to say yes. The two kissed and Nicholson made weight.
Nicholson (6-1), a top light heavyweight prospect, has won five in a row. The 25-year-old, who hails from Florida, has six finishes in his six career victories.
