This is the Promotional Malpractice Live Chat.

I'm here in Houston, so we'll talk about Bellator 149. It's been both surreal and illuminating to be here. On the one hand is the online chatter about how terrible this event is and how no one in the main or co-main event can fight up to modern standards of MMA. There's even talk of why this event is happening. On the ground, however, that chatter appears to not be particularly persuasive. There is more media for this Bellator event than any other I've ever covered. Bellator staff seem genuinely unconcerned with criticisms of the show and don't expect them to have much of an impact on the event's financial bottomline. That doesn't make those criticisms wrong, so we'll try to find a place for both views to live.

We'll also talk about the UFC show on Sunday. The event has been marred by injuries, but the UFC has done what they can to keep the card intact. There are some interesting bouts on the card, although it's certainly in a degraded state. Nevertheless, we'll talk about what to expect in the major action that's head.

We'll also try to wrap our heads around this latest chapter in mixed martial arts free agency. Benson Henderson moved to Bellator, but Alistair Overeem and Aljamain Sterling stayed with the UFC. We'll dissect why and look ahead to what could happen next in this ever-evolving saga.

There's a lot going on, so join me today to discuss all of this and more. In terms of today's chat, anything is up for discussion, but I will lead with this and it all kicks off at 1 p.m. ET.

As is customary, I'll post the video window here as the event draws near and I'll answer any questions you may have if you post them in the comments section below. Be sure that you click the 'rec' button for those comments/questions you believe most deserve a response.
