John Lineker pulled out of UFC Fight Night 83 due to dengue fever, and the promotion called on another Brazilian to face Cody Garbrandt on Sunday night.
"No Love" will now take on multiple-time jiu-jitsu world champion Augusto Mendes at Pittsburgh’s Consol Energy Center, sources told MMAFighting.com. Combate first reported the news.
Mendes was scheduled to fight for the Legacy FC title when he got a call from the UFC to replace injured Jimy Hettes against Charles Rosa in January, but he pulled out hours later due to a rib injury. The Brazilian grappler is 5-0 in MMA with four submission victories.
Garbrandt, a 7-0 prospect from Team Alpha Male, won back-to-back fights in the UFC, knocking out Marcus Brimage in his debut and going the distance for the first time in his career against Enrique Briones. He finished his first six opponents via knockout.
UFC Fight Night 83 will be headlined by Donald Cerrone vs. Alex Oliveira.
