UFC on FOX 18 medical suspensions: Sage Northcutt suspended indefinitely due to foot injury

There probably won't be a quick turnaround for Sage Northcutt this time.

The UFC's much-maligned, highly hyped prospect was suspended indefinitely by the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board on Saturday night, pending x-rays of his right foot and toes, according to a release sent out by the NJSACB. He was also suspended 30 days for a laceration on his forehead.

Northcutt fell via second-round submission (arm triangle) to Bryan Barberena at UFC on FOX 18 on Saturday night in Newark. It was the first pro loss of Northcutt's career.

On The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, the 19-year-old said he was suffering from strep throat heading into the bout. NJSABC deputy attorney general Nick Lembo said it was unlawful in the state to comment on private medical records of fighters.

Northcutt (7-1) was discovered at a Legacy FC event by UFC president Dana White on his "Lookin' For a Fight" show on UFC Fight Pass. He won his first two UFC fights via finish in October and December before falling to Barberena, a tough veteran from The MMA Lab in Arizona.

The fight was supposed to be a lightweight bout between Northcutt and Andrew Holbrook, but Holbrook pulled out two weeks prior and Barberena filled in. The bout was contested at welterweight because of it short-notice nature.

Barberena was also suspended by the NJSACB for 45 days due to a forehead laceration.
