Cain Velasquez releases statement on NAC’s decision to pull him from UFC 207

Like many fans, Cain Velasquez is disappointed in his removal from his UFC 207 bout with Fabricio Werdum.

The UFC heavyweight was not licensed to fight and removed from the UFC 207 card last week by the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC). This decision came after Velasquez revealed to ESPN that he had been using cannabidiol oil to deal with the pain of a back injury that would require surgery after his scheduled bout with Werdum.

The commission’s executive director Bob Bennett told MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani on Saturday that the decision to pull Velasquez was taken to “protect” the health and “safety” of the fighter.

On Wednesday, Velasquez issued a statement via his Facebook page on situation and the NAC’s decision to pull him from Friday’s UFC 207.
