SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Mike Perry brought his lethal right hand into his UFC on FOX 22 welterweight matchup with Alan Jouban on Saturday night.
But Jouban brought a complete, well-rounded kickboxing game.
Jouban mixed a wide variety of kicks with spurts of punches in bunches, and while he remained wary of Perry’s knockout power, it was more than enough to get the job done at Golden 1 Center. The judges’ scores were were 29-28 and a pair of 30-27s for a unanimous decision.
The first round was the closest of the fight, as Jouban landed with kicks, but also had a habit of circling into Perry’s power alley. Perry made Jouban pay on several occasions in a close round.
In the second, Jouban took control, as he corrected his mistakes and was more methodical in his strikes. In the third, Perry seemed to understand he needed a finish, but before he could go headhunting, Jouban blistered him with kicks high, medium, and low, and never let him get untracked.
With the win Los Angeles’ Jouban improved to 15-4. It was his third in a row and fifth in his past six. Perry suffered his first professional loss and dropped to 9-1.
