Round 1: Alright, first fight on the main card should be a goody. Mein returning from retirement, Meek rolling into his debut with momentum after knocking out Rousimar Palhares. Third man in the cage is Dan Miragliotta. They touch gloves. Leg kick and a smile from Mein, and a whiff my Meek. Meek with a leg kick now, and Mein immediately grabs a single-leg and spins Meek down. But he's right back up. They trade in the middle, Meek with his head down and gunning. Meek now gets tackled in the middle, and Mein's momentum nearly cost him the top position. But he is able to correct himself and he's into side control. A lot of people wondered if Meek's Achilles Heel might be the ground, and here we are. But he is able to escape a north-south position and stand up. And he's winging bombs! He is throwing against Mein on the fence, and landing, as Mein now ducks under for a takedown. Can't get it. Huge right forearm crashes home for Mein, and Meek smiles. That hurt. He's okay, though, and Mein resets. Leg kick, now a head kick attempt. That grazes Meek. Mein waits for Meek to commit to a lunging strike, grabs him by the waist and drives him down on the fence. Now he has Meek on one knee, and he's working from his back. Meek pops up and tries to decapitate Mein wit ha head kick. Caught mostly arms, and Mein lands a nice one-two! Wild sequence, and Meek lands a big shot and Mein now smiles. Meek tries to track him down and land a flying knee, but misses — crowd loves it. They tie up on the fence, and Meek leaning his weight in. A couple of kicks on the break from Meek. Good stuff all around there that round. MMA Fighting scores R1 for Mein, 10-9.
Round 2: Meek asks crowd to get lively, and it does. He comes out quick, thundering shots on Mein on the fence, and Mein circles out. Meek is a headhunter, man. Mein looks great after two years out. Solid combo there from Meek, who lands on the second shot. Some blood under Mein's nose, and Meek now opening up a volley on him on the fence. Now it's MEEK with the takedown. Wow. He just scooped up Mein and dumped him in on the canvas. He is going to work, as Mein is trying to scramble up. Mein now snatches his neck and holds him close, as he operates from half guard. Not a lot of action here, as Mein is forcing a stalemate. Miragliotta seems satisfied though that there's an effort to make something happen, so we continue. Meek showing some wrinkles by keeping on top. Not sure many thought he'd be the aggressor on a takedown, from the sample size we've seen from his Euro fights. He continues to wedge his knee into the frustrated Mein's arm, and hold him there. For a moment looked like he was transitioning to side control, but Mein recovers. Now Meek gets enough room to throw a series of shirt right hands into Mein's head. Crowd liked that, even though it's a Canadian taking those flush. Now Meek rakes his forearm across Mein's neck and he is putting his entire being on. Again, he frees himself just enough to drop some punches. Rounds going to end with Meek dominating the ground there. MMA Fighting scores R2 for Meek, 10-9 (19-19 overall)
Round 3: Meek again rouses the crowd. He's a showman. They touch gloves. Meek to center, and he delivers as harp leg kick. Meek pressing forward. He's sweating, and he has some swelling, but he's still the action initiator. Mein looks at big screen, perhaps at the time, as Meek rolls low and presses him to fence. Meek, the grinder. As they break, Meek opens fire again, and Mein looked like he pulls guard there — or could have been an attempt to take Meek down, that ended up poorly (view was blocked). Meek operating from Mein's guard, and he's trying to posture up. This time they are more towards the center of the cage, and Meek looks damn strong in there. He's throwing little punches to Mein's rubs, and he's also keeping his head right into Mein's chin. It goes on, Mein can't get anything going — can't get up. Miragliotta looks on again, but Meek staying busy, as Mein has managed to scoot all the way to the fence. A minute to go, and short elbows from Meek. He's suffocating Mein here. Crowd a little anxious. Meek seems to be just making damn sure he leaves Toronto with his first win in the UFC. Twenty seconds, and he's still on top — but Mein is looking for an arm...Meek lifts him up like a colossus and screams as he tries to slam Mein down. It's a soft landing, but this fight's Meek's.
