Round 1: This has been a fun card. And this one promises to put an exclamation mark on it. Pettis (missed weight) not fighting for the interim belt, but Holloway is. Who gets Jose Aldo? Main event time. The third man is Yves Lavigne, and he has read the instructions. Pettis spurned Holloway on the touching of gloves. Pettis opens with kicks, nothing that lands. Holloway light on his feet early, holding the center. They come together in the middle, and each lands to the head. Nice low kick to high kick combo from Pettis, who looks damn fluid so far. Pettis circling, and he lands a nice counter when Holloway moved in — now he lands a partial spinning kick to the body. Holloway felt that. Side kick from Pettis, and now Holloway comes in on fence wit ha combo. That was nice. Nice sequence in which Pettis landed the parting shot in the form of a head kick, but it didn't land flush. They trade in the middle, a gun fight moment, and Holloway got the better of the exchange. When Holloway throws, it's been in bunches. He slams a nice counter fight into Pettis, who was coming in aggressive. Pettis looks for a takedown at the end of the round. MMA Fighting scores R1 to Holloway, 10-9
Round 2: Pettis to center, and he's got his paws up ready for offense — yet it's Holloway who comes forward with a combo. Now Holloway catches Pettis there and Pettis is on his back; he's okay, and Holloway invites him back to his feet. Pettis tries a cartwheel kick, which fetches a roar from this Canadian crowd, but didn't look like it landed from here. Holloway with a tremendous body punch, followed up by some nice head shots. He's starting to get into a rhythm. Pettis has some blood on his eye, and some swelling. For a moment Holloway grabbed Pettis' neck standing, and blasted him with a couple of shots on the break. Again, body shots from Holloway, who is mixing it up very nicely in there, the dirty boxing on point. Pettis still trying toget one of those kicks to settle things up, but again he has it partially blocked. Front kick from Pettis. Pettis now drops low and posts Holloway on the fence, and there they toil. Pettis fishing for a leg, but also a good moment to break Holloway's stride a bit. Can't get the takedown, and Holloway now trying to land knees in close. At the end, Pettis flings Holloway who falls down, but it was mostly a loss of balance. MMA Fighting scores R2 for Holloway, 10-9 (20-18 overall)
Round 3: Leg kicks from Pettis, three in a row. He misses on fourth, but giving Holloway something to think about. Leead leg has taken some punishment. Holloway steps forward, and connects with his right. Short right hand, and uh-oh — looks like Pettis took a knee to the groin. They are back at it. Pettis throwing outside kicks, and as he does, Holloway lands inside of them — he's staying in the margins. Beautiful elbow in close from Holloway on the fence after a quick tie-up. Again Holloway landed something (obstructed) that sent Pettis to his back, and again, rather than pursue, he invites Pettis back up. They are now tangoing on the fence, and Pettis is one more time looking to muscle a takedown. Can't get it, and Holloway rolls out. They engage in the middle, as Pettis that time lands a nice short right. Some blood spilling out of the ear of Pettis. Pettis flashes that jab, and it lands — he's had some success there, but he has been erratic with it. Holloway with a crisp combo, and now he uses his forearm to throw Pettis down. He goes down there for a moment to see what can be done, but thinks better of it. They are up. Blood obvious on Pettis' features. Holloway comes to life on the fence and that's it! Pettis takes a series of shots, and Lavigne stops the fight on the fence! It's over. Holloway is your interim champion. Wow.UFC 206 official results: Max Holloway def.
