The UFC 206 showdown between Misha Cirkunov and Nikita Krylov was the rarest of MMA unicorns: An intriguing battle of young light heavyweight prospects with legitimate futures.

And it was Cirkunov who took advantage of the moment. The Latvia native stepped up in his adopted hometown of Toronto, scoring a first-round submission in the Air Canada Centre. The time was 4:38.

Krylov (21-5) came into the fight with the meatier resume, as the Ukranian had scored five straight finish victories. But Cirkunov (13-2) dictated the pace from the outset, scoring multiple takedowns and dominating all aspects of the fight.

Late in the first, Cirkunov dropped Krylov with a wicked straight left. It didn't take long from there for Cirkunov to transition into the winning gullotine choke, sending the Toronto crowd into a frenzy.

"I'm more than happy for my win, but hearing all you guys, I live in this city, this is great, every single one of you," said Cirkunov, who has won nine in a row and is 4-0 in the UFC. "[Next] I want to get in and fight a legend like a Shogun Rua, really show what I can do."
