Sergio Pettis became a top 15 fighter in the UFC following his win over Chris Kelades, and now he’s getting the biggest fight of his life in Arizona. The 23-year-old flyweight is set to take on Jussier Formiga at the UFC Fight Night 103 card in Phoenix, AZ, on Jan. 15, sources told MMA Fighting.
Pettis (14-2) was expected to face Louis Smolka in October, but pulled out of the contest due to an injury. Coming off back-to-back decision wins over Kelades and Chris Cariaso, the Roufusport talent looks to improve to 3-1 since cutting down to 125 pounds.
Formiga (19-4), currently ranked at No. 3 in the flyweight division, bounced back from a loss to Henry Cejudo with a win over Dustin Ortiz in September. Formiga has won four of his last five UFC fights, with victories against Wilson Reis, Zach Makovsky and Scott Jorgensen.
UFC Fight Night 103 takes place at the Talking Stick Arena in Phoenix, and also includes Court McGee vs. Ben Saunders, Viktor Pesta vs. Damian Grabowski, Erik Koch vs. Tony Martin, Cyril Asker vs. Dmitry Smolyakov, Joachim Christensen vs. Bojan Mihajlovic, and Devin Powell vs. Jordan Rinaldi.
