UFC 205 live blog: Miesha Tate vs. Raquel Pennington

This is the UFC 205 live blog for Miesha Tate vs. Raquel Pennington, a bantamweight bout at Saturday night's UFC event at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York.

Tate, who has won five of her past six fights, will face Pennington, who has won four of her past five fights, on the main card.

Round 1: Here we go. First fight of UFC 205 main card, on this historical night. We'll see how Tate responds from that devastating fight with Nunes. Dan Miragliotta is the ref. They are standing toe to toe n the middle, trading early. Tate looking for that right hand. Rocky waving the left. Tate changing levels a little bit, throwing body punches. Tate ate a shot. She has some swelling on her forehead. Bridge of her nose bleeding. Now they clinch, and Tate posts Pennington on the fence, drops for a single leg. Can't get it...yet. Looking to dump Pennington on the fence, but Rocky thwarting. Rocky literally picks up Tate by the neck, and again! Tate uses her legs to walk on the fence on the second one, and Pennington still holding the neck. Tate finally gets that take down. Damn! She worked for that, earned it. Rocky scoots to fence and is trying to stand. Tate edges towards her back, and now Pennington does stand, still wearing Tate. Some elbows from Pennington to the thigh. She has Tate's wrist. Tate climbing on Pennington now, has her thigh across Pennington's midsection. And she takes her down right at the close of the round. MMA Fighting scores R1 for Pennington, 10-9.

Round 2: Jab by Tate, and another — and Pennington returns fire, a nice lunging combo. Overhand from Miesha, then a brief clinch. Crowd not buzzing much for this one. Nice right hand from Pennington rocked Tate's head back, as Tate ducks under and shoves Pennington to the fence. They are clinched there, and Tate lands a couple of knees. Now the toil again. Another set of knees in that clinch from Tate, who lands a nice one to the upper body. She's now posting Pennington again, slipping towards her back, and now Pennington snatches Tate's! She is trying to kick her leg out, perhaps score a trip here. Pennington yanks Tate off the fence, and Tate rolls right back — she eats a series of right hands in close. They roll on fence, and Pennington still on the offensive. Knees from Tate, and Pennington with some dirty boxing, uppercuts inside. Tate now reverses again, and she has Pennington on the fence. And now the roll, and the stay on the fence, Pennington slamming right hands. They break towards the horn, and there's a nice parting exchange as they do. Round 3: Tate might need a finish. She's been good in must-finish situations before, see if she can do it again. Tate tries to pull guard. That might have backfired, as Pennington slams home a series of lefts. Tate looking for an arm bar here, and Rocky just powering through. She's hammerfisting with each opening. Tate in a weird position, as Rocky just powering down on her, and now they are north-south. Finally Tate able to get up, but Pennington has her neck. And she drags her back down, Tate on her butt fending the choke. Now a butterfly guard for Tate, who then rolls into a heel hook attemp. Pennington holding top of the fence, and Miragliotta warns her. Now they are separate, but Tate is still on the ground, and Pennington jumps back in. Again, Tate fishing for a leg, for some leverage, and Rocky fending, and now controlling Tate bodily via the neck. Tate up, but with her back to the fence, and Pennington still powering. She has her head tucked under Tate's chin, blasting with short lefts. Tate can't get rolling; been a frustrating fight for her. Now Pennington trips Tate to the canvas, and her we go. A sally of right hands, and Tate is just trying to scramble out. Might be too late. Pennington hears the 10-second warning clacks, and stands to unleash a big finishing series of blows to close out the bout. Should be her fight.
