Ex-UFC Brazil head explains gripes with promotion leading to his departure

UFC

The former UFC Brazil general manager says he departed partly due to some issues with how the promotion dealt with Brazilian fighters.

Giovani Decker wrote in an Instagram post Friday that he stepped down from his post as the UFC's Brazil vice president and GM partly due to recent decisions made regarding Brazilian fighters and title shots. He also cited a lack of autonomy as one of his reasons for leaving.

TMJ SEMPRE ! Osss #MMAMEUESPORTEPARASEMPRE #MUITOOBRIGADO

Decker went on in the post to thank UFC officials and fighters and to say that it was a good experience to work for the promotion.

News of Decker's departure was reported earlier this month. The UFC has yet to officially announce it. Decker was named Brazil VP and GM in March 2015.

The latest and most notable decision about a Brazilian fighter not getting a title shot has to do with Jose Aldo, the UFC interim featherweight champion. He has expressed his desire to retire after being promised either a rematch with champion Conor McGregor or that McGregor would be stripped of the belt. Aldo has slammed the UFC in recent social media postings and interviews and flew to Las Vegas last week to meet with brass.

McGregor beat Aldo to win the 145-pound title last December, but has still not defended the gold. This year, he fought Nate Diaz twice at welterweight and will now challenge for the lightweight title against Eddie Alvarez in the main event of UFC 205 on Nov. 12 in New York.

A request for a response from the UFC to Decker's comments was not answered Friday.
