Jon Jones, Matt Mitrione trade shots on Twitter

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

To say things got personal between sidelined UFC star Jon Jones and Bellator heavyweight Matt Mitrione on Friday would be a bit of an understatement.

The random beef started late in the afternoon, when Mitrione took a jab at Jones over Twitter.

From there, things escalated quickly, as Jones clearly didn't appreciate the unprovoked remark.

By that point, all bets were off, with both Jones and Mitrione embarking on lengthy rants about one another.

Jones is currently sidelined while awaiting his arbitration hearing with USADA and disciplinary hearing with the Nevada Athletic Commission stemming from his failed drug test for the banned substances clomiphene and letrozole.

Jones' attorney, Howard Jacobs, recently stated that USADA independently confirmed that both banned substances were found within a tainted supplement belonging to Jones.

Mitrione, meanwhile, is 2-0 since leaving the UFC for Bellator MMA earlier this year. Both victories have come via KO/TKO.
