James Gallagher has an opponent for what is a bit of a homecoming fight for him.
Gallagher will meet Anthony Taylor in the co-main event of Bellator 169 on Dec. 16 in Dublin, Ireland, the promotion announced Thursday. Gallagher, a Northern Ireland native, trains at Straight Blast Gym under coach John Kavanagh and with Conor McGregor in Dublin.
Gallagher (4-0) made his Bellator debut with a unanimous decision victory over Mike Cutting in July. He finished all three of his previous fights via submission. Gallagher, just 20 years old, is a top prospect. The bout with Taylor will be fought at featherweight.
Taylor (1-1) is coming off a 27-second knockout of Victor Jones in just his second pro fight in May. He lost his Bellator debut to Adin Duenas via first-round submission in December. Taylor, 27, trains out of Team Bodyshop in Lakewood, Calif., under Antonio McKee and alongside the likes of Bubba Jenkins and A.J. McKee.
Also added to Bellator 169 was a women's flyweight fight between Bruna Ellen and Helen Harper. Ellen (2-1), a 20-year-old Brazilian prospect, fell in her Bellator debut to Jessica Middleton via unanimous decision in July. Harper (4-1), an alum of The Ultimate Fighter 23, has only lost to current UFC strawweight Cortney Casey in official bouts.
Both bouts will be on the main card.
Bellator 169 is headlined by a heavyweight bout between Muhammed Lawal and Satoshi Ishii. A featherweight fight pitting Daniel Weichel and Ireland's Paul Redmond will be on the main card as well.
