Enrique Marin released from the UFC following Sage Northcutt loss

Enrique Marin is no longer a UFC fighter.

The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America 2 runner up announced on Sunday via his Instagram account that he's been released from the promotion.

Marin last competed at UFC 200 where he lost a unanimous decision to Sage Northcutt in a very competitive fight that had Marin almost finishing Northcutt with an arm bar. Prior to that, the Spanish fighter lost a close split decision to Erick Montaño in the welterweight tournament final of TUF: Latin America 2 back in November 2015. Before his two-fight UFC stint, Marin was on a seven-fight winning streak, fighting in different promotions around Spain. 'Wasabi' remains one of the most popular and skilled fighters to come out of Spain.

Marin told MMA Fighting that he was a bit surprised to receive the news since his loss to Northcutt was over three months ago, and everything seemed to be running 'normal' between him and the UFC. This doesn't mark the end for 30-year-old lightweight, as he says that he will continue his career as a professional fighter despite not being in the UFC.

Below is a translation of what Marin posted to Instagram in Spanish:

"I have just been given an important notice. Four months after my last fight, I'm being informed that I'm no longer a UFC fighter due to my last loss, and some changes within the company, when everything seemed to be running in normal course according to what I was being informed.

"But that's how things present themselves in life, and you just have to flow with them. I did everything I could, so thanks to everyone for the support I received from every part, I say it from my heart. We're going to keep fighting in other current big leagues, and see what the future holds. A chapter closes and another opens. And that's what living consists of."
