Jiu-jitsu world champion Mackenzie Dern missed weight for her Friday night showdown against Montana Stewart at Legacy FC 61, tipping the scales Thursday at 118.3 pounds for the strawweight contest.
Dern, 23, is currently the No. 1 ranked female jiu-jitsu artist in the world and is considered to be one of the top strawweight prospects in mixed martial arts. A highly decorated grappler, Dern (1-0) picked up a dominating decision win over Kenia Rosas in her MMA debut in July. A portion of her Legacy FC 61 purse will be forfeited to Stewart due to missing weight.
Stewart (5-2) weighed in at 115.5 for the strawweight contest. Stewart has won five consecutive contests, finishing four of those bouts via submission.
Legacy FC 61 takes place Oct. 14 at The Bomb Factory in Dallas, Texas. The main card airs live on AXS TV.
Bantamweight headliner Steven Peterson also missed weight on Thursday, coming in at 137.5 pounds for his title contest against Mark De La Rosa, who weighed 135 pounds. In the co-main event, Damon Jackson and Levi Mowles both successfully weighed in at 145 pounds for their featherweight championship fight.
