This is the Promotional Malpractice Live Chat.

The issue of injuries in mixed martial arts (MMA) and how to combat them rages on as Cain Velasquez has withdrawn from yet another bout due to injury. The severity of it is not known, but a back injury can be a trouble indicator of something more lasting and long term. Fabricio Werdum also withdrew from the bout due to injury, but said he'd have soldiered on had it been Velasquez and not Stipe Miocic who filled in. This rankled fans who forget fighters are rational businessmen and not ogres willing to fight under any condition.

But that event isn't for two weeks, now on Fox Sports 1, not pay-per-view. This weekend is two events, UFC on FOX 18 and Bellator 148. Neither card is particularly great. The UFC event is headlined by what feels like a blowout light heavyweight contest, although there's a good heavyweight battle added to the card. Paul Daley is on the Bellator card, but there's not much great beyond that.

Ronda Rousey was on Saturday Night Live, Conor McGregor was in GQ and Donald Cerrone continued to push back against Reebok. Just another week in our wild and crazy sport.
