Ronda Rousey to star in remake of 1980s cult classic 'Road House'

The achievements just keep rolling in for Ronda Rousey.

The UFC women's bantamweight champion will star in a reprisal of 1980s cult classic Road House, her agent Brad Slater of William Morris Endeavor told MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani. Rousey will be in the lead role that Patrick Swayze held in the original.

MGM owns the project and selected Rousey for the starring role, but a screenplay still needs to be written. Rousey reached out to Swayze's widow, Lisa Nieme, to get approval for the part and received it, Slater said. Swayze died in 2009 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

"Road House," which came out in 1989, featured Swayze as a bouncer who protected a small Missouri town from a corrupt businessman. The new version will feature Rousey as a female lead and a new spin on the original idea.

"Production of the movie will be dictated, as always, by her fight schedule," Slater said. "That's how we always do it and that will be the case here."

Rousey, 28, already has three movies under her belt: The Expendables 3, Fast & Furious 7 and Entourage. She'll be filming another one, Mile 22 with Mark Wahlberg, in the coming months. Rousey will also star in the biopic of her book "My Fight/Your Fight."

Last month, "Rowdy" defeated Bethe Correia by knockout in just 34 seconds in the main event of UFC 190. The undefeated Rousey (12-0) will defend her title again against Holly Holm in the main event of UFC 193 on Nov. 15 in Melbourne, Australia. The UFC will attempt to break its all-time attendance record in its first show in the city. Etihad Stadium will hold around 75,000 for UFC 183.

Rousey's star continues to shine bright. Just last weekend, the UFC champ had her now famous "Do Nothing Bitch" speech played during a Beyonce concert. The UFC licensed the audio from UFC Embedded to Beyonce's team.
