Round 1: Co-main event between two resurrection stories, two former champs. The referee for this one is John McCarthy. No touch of gloves. Southpaw Mir pawing with Arlovski. Mir moves in and pushes Arlovski to the fence, and it's clinchwork. They break. Arlovski wings a couple of big shots from range, can't connect. They both plant and fire again, but neither can land. Leg kick from Arlovski, as Mir sizes him up. Mir is huge. A lot of upper body. He moves in again, and to the fence he pushes Arlovski. Leg kick from Arlovski again, and Mir just takes is stalking forward. Mir once again lowers his head and moves in, but again can't get anything going. Mir crowding to avoid damage. They do it again just as Arlovski gets ready to tee-off, and Arlovski working wrist control. They meet in the center like great slabs, and both land inside. Left hook from Mir, and they go back to the fence. Mir all leverage and power. They clinch, and Arlovski tries to reverse the action. He does. Neither can create room to get off anything big. Knee on the break from Arlovski, who circles. One last exchange at the end of the round, as Arlovski lands a right hand. MMA Fighting scores R1 for Arlovski, 10-9.
Round 2: Arlovski to center, and Mir comes out reversing his stance to orthodox. Now he shoots in and takes Arlovski down, and he lays his entire hulk into the Belarus fighter. Trying to get enough daybreak to work some ground and pound, but right now Arlovski is tying his arms up. Body shots from Mir on top, and now he's raining elbows. Mir in good control here. Arlovski trying to stall action enough for McCarthy to stand them. He has a bear hug on Mir. Now McCarthy accommodates Arlovski, and stands them up. Mir with his arms down. Arlovski still active, switch kick lands. They swing again, and this time Arlovski charges Mir into the fence, nothing doing. Mir perfectly still trying to size up a big shot on Arlovski, but Arlovski still on his bike. They are slowing considerably, though. Mir particularly, looks a little winded — all 266 pounds of him. A little blood on Arlovski's face, and now a spinning backfist from Mir. That glances off Arlovski's gloves (and possibly his brow). Back to center, and now they are firing one-offs. Arlovski lands a big right. Nothing that hurt Mir. Mir might be trying to dupe Arlovski into something dumb. Time called for McCarthy to pick up Mir's mouthpiece. Arlovski comes back in on return to action, but can't land the right flush. MMA Fighting scores R2 for Mir, 10-9 (19-19 overall)
Round 3: Mir's corner wants him to work the lower body, and to keep on with the switch kick. Both guys huffing air. Both nicked up. Mir forces a clinch as Arlovski moves in, and he drags him back to the fence. Arlovski reverses, and now he's got Mir on the fence, as McCarthy urges the fighters to work. He breaks them up, and they return to center. Arlovski tries an overhand right, and Mir shoots for a single-leg at the right time, but can't dump the Jackson fighter down. Boos rain down as they end up at the fence again, stalled. McCarthy asking them to keep busy. Elbow from Arlovski. Mir looks at the clock. Still a small eternity to go. Again, McCarthy breaks them and returns them to center. Same thing, Mir avoids the right after some pawing, and now he cracks Arlovski with a big shot. And he's got him on the ground, coming to life, trying to put him away. Arlovski gets back up, as Mir went for the arm. Crazy sequence. Work the crowd up. Now they are on fence again, and Arlovski and Mir pummel on the fence. Just sludge work there, as both guys are exhausted and full of dead muscle. McCarthy breaks them apart again, and to the center we go. High kick from Arlovski, misses. Nice left hand snaps Mir's head back from Arlovski, and then again. Finds a home for that left late, does Arlovski. They clinch, with Mir bleeding fairly profusely out of his right eye, down his cheek. McCarthy warns them to get busy yet again. The break, and a wild exchange to end it. Tough round to score. MMA Fighting scores R3 for Mir, 10-9 (29-28 for Mir).
