World Series of Fighting will unveil its inaugural flyweight title on Oct. 17 at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut.
On Tuesday the promotion announced that undefeated Chechnyan fighter Magomed Bibulatov and unbeaten Las Vegas-based Donavon Frelow will fight for the first 125-pound crown.
The event will take place at WSOF 24: Fitch vs. Okami.
"We are looking forward to crowning the first champion ever in our fast-growing and highly-competitive flyweight division, on October 17," WSOF president Ray Sefo stated in the press release. "As two of the weight class’ most dynamic stars who have yet to be beaten, Magomed and Donavon have earned their respective places in this historic championship fight, and we are confident that the winner will personify what being a champion in World Series of Fighting is about."
The 27-year old Bibulatov (9-0) is a strong sambo and wrestling specialist who is coming off a 90-second knockout victory over Eduardo Felipe in March. That marked his first KO victory. He also has four submission victories on his resume.
His opponent, the 30-year-old Frelow (5-0), is a grappling ace who has won four of his five overall fights via submission. He is making his third appearance under the WSOF banner, and has scored victories over Taylor McCorriston and Carlos Garcia.
WSOF 24 will be headlined by long-time veterans Jon Fitch and Yushin Okami, and will also feature a heavyweight title fight between Bulgarian champion Blagoy Ivanov (12-1) against Derek Mehman (19-6).
