With a flyweight title fight between champion Demetrious Johnson and John Dodson already official for UFC 191 in Las Vegas, the promotion has decided to balance things out by adding a big-time heavyweight bout.
During Saturday night's UFC 190 pay-per-view it was announced that a bout between former champions Frank Mir and Andrei Arlovski is official for Sept. 5. The heavyweight bout will be the co-main event before Dodson-Johnson II.
The 36-year old Arlovski will be looking to make it six wins in a row, a streak that began during his time with the World Series of Fighting. Since returning to the UFC, Arlovski has come crashing back into contention with victories over Brendan Schaub, Antonio Silva and Travis Browne, the latter whom he knocked out in one of the best rounds of the year at UFC 187.
Mir, also 36, has had an improbably turnaround himself. After losing four straight fights between 2012 and 2014, Mir has scored back-to-back wins over Antonio Silva and Todd Duffee. The two-time former titleholder knocked out both in the first round.
UFC 191 will take place Sept. 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
