Round 1: Here we go, y'all. UFC 189 is finally upon us. The atmosphere around Las Vegas all day today has been incredible. The Irish have taken over this city. Referee Chris Tognoni gets this party started. Cedeno comes out on fire, connecting on a pair of leg kicks followed by an overhand. Pfister stalks forward undeterred. Cedeno's haircut is something else. Pfister backs Cedeno up against the fence and lands a hard one-two. Stiff jab from Pfister. Cedeno wades in with a right then changes levels, but Pfister escapes to his feet. Pfister catches Cedeno with a hard right. Big leg kick from Cedeno. Another one, and another. Those are loud. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 for Cedeno.

Round 2: Both men throwing bombs early. Cedeno eats a huge right. Pfister fires off a big combination then changes levels and takes Cedeno's back in a scramble. Both hooks in for Pfister. He gets a little too overzealous and Cedeno manages to twist into top position. They stall out and Tognoni stands the fight up. Pfister takes it right back to the mat and settles in Cedeno's guard. Cedeno tries to shrimp to feet his but Pfister latches onto his back, then settles in half guard in the scramble. Full mount for Pfister but he can't do anything with it. And they're up to their feet. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 for Pfister.

Round 3: Pfister immediately dives low and dumps Cedeno to his butt along the fence. Pfister looking to complete the takedown but gets interrupted by a quick stand-up from Tognoni. This man wants violence and he wants it now. Pfister won't oblige though, as he shoots right back and easily takes down Cedeno. Pfister works short strikes from Cedeno's guard. Cedeno looks to escape and once again gives up his back. That's the second time he's done that. Both hooks in for Pfister. Pfister tries to transition into mount but Cedeno's seizes the moment to escape. Pfister is relentless though, and he quickly settles back into Cedeno's guard. Cedeno needs to do something drastic or he's going to let this fight slip away. Once again Pfister slithers onto Cedeno's back. Quick escape from Cedeno but it's too little, too late. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 for Pfister.

Neil Seery vs. Louis Smolka
Round 1: And here's out first ‘Ole' chant of the night. Tons of Irish already in here to support their boy Seery. Marc Goddard is our referee. These dudes are swinging! Oh man, Seery catches a nasty finger in the eye. He's split open. Goddard warns Smolka and we're back on. Seery comes out like a man possessed, catches Smolka with a shot then whirls to take his back. Wild sequence here. Smolka fights out of the sub attempt and methodically reclaims top position. Smolka advances to half guard. He's working on a nasty guillotine. This looks bad. Suddenly the Irish erupt and Seery seems to respond! I have no idea how he toughed that out and escaped, but man, that was crazy. Smolka moves to side control, and starts setting up a modified d'arce. He takes mount but again Seery escapes danger. Just a gutty, gutty round from Seery. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 for Smolka.

Round 2: Seery comes out aggressive, lobbing right hands at Smolka's chin. Seery drags Smolka to the mat, but after a frenetic scramble, ends up with his back on the canvas. Slick reverse and trip takedown there from Smolka. Smolka goes to work with punches from guard. "U-S-A!" chant briefly starts in the crowd, but it's quickly drowned out by the Irish. This place is nuts already. Seery rolls and Smolka latches onto his back. Seery tries to stand but Smolka is hanging on like a backpack. Smolka drags him back down and starts hunting for a rear-naked choke. Seery literally looks up at the screens and starts hurling punches behind his head at Smola. That was weirdly effective. Seery explodes to his feet but can't shake Smolka. Back down and that's how we end the round. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 for Smolka.

Round 3: Seery is slugging already. Smolka ducks under the looping hooks and plows Seery to the canvas. Seery scrambles back up and starts headhunting, igniting the Irish contingent here. Smolka dives for a single, but Seery has a guillotine locked up tight. Smolka stays calms and works into side control. That could've been a bad spot. Smolka lunges onto an arm triangle. Seery slips out but quickly gives up his back. Seery stands, gets slammed down, stands again, then gets slammed down again, but now he has another guillotine going. Smolka takes his time and escapes. Wild scramble and Smolka jumps onto another arm triangle. Seery ain't quitting on this one. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 for Smolka.

We're back to the center of the cage and Briones connects with another jab. Garbrandt wags his finger Mutumbo style. No, no, no. Garbrandt goes over the top and cracks Briones with a left hook. Right hook follows a few seconds later but Briones eats it. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 for Garbrandt.

Round 3:
Garbrandt opens with a leg kick. They trade jabs, and Garbrandt follows with another. The crowd is starting to get restless again as inaction takes over in the cage. Briones finds a home for his jab. Solid exchange against the fence as both men get a few licks in. Briones really needs to dial up his urgency here. Just as I write that, nice uppercut/straight right combo lands for Briones. Briones is becoming the aggressor and Garbrandt isn't liking it. Garbrandt changes levels and bulls Briones to the floor. Briones scrambles and stands, but eats a knee on the way up. Ten seconds left and now Garbrandt starts unloading. Massive punches from Garbrandt but Briones has one hell of a chin on him. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 for Garbrandt.

Cathal Pendred vs. John Howard
Round 1: Here's out first "Big" John McCarthy sighting of the night. Cathal Pendred's walkout was crazy. The entire Irish contingent was on their feet singing. Pendred wades into the clinch and traps Howard against the fence. They break back to the center of the cage, and this crowd just cannot stop singing. Howard slips an uppercut then goes over the top with a right. They lock up and Pendred walks Howard to the fence. Nothing going so Pendred releases. Pendred eats a stiff right. Not much going on here. And just like that they're trading. Nothing lands flush and Pendred again walks Howard back against the fence. Pretty boring round right there. MMA Fighting scores it 10-10.

Round 2: Pendred fires a knee to Howard's midsection and Howard answers with a right. Howard starts unloading with looping rights and lefts but Pendred just eats ‘em. Pendred connects with a jab. And another. Howard rushes into the clinch and both men seem content to just chill. Stalemate against the fence leads to an eventual break. Pendred doing lots of circling, Howard doing lots of stalking. Leg kick from Howard spins Pendred around. The crowd is turning against this fight real, real quick. Howard swarms to close the round, and hell, that'll give it to him. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 for Howard.

Round 3: Howard continues to stalk as his corner implores him to turn up the heat. Pendred clinches, goes to work with knees, then drives him against the fence. Pendred breaks to the middle. And hey, here's another clinch. And hey, here's another stalemate. Howard finally changes levels for a single. Pendred grabs a guillotine as Howard hoists him down, but he can't finish it. Howard stands, then cracks Pendred with a right as Pendred follows him up. Pendred paws out his jab. A series of looping hooks miss for Pendred. Howard pours on a few rights at the horn. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 for Garcia.

Round 2: Garcia feigns inside then jumps on a takedown, dumping Swick onto his back along the fence. Swick pushes him off and connects with a knee to the jaw. Swick pops out his jab, and again. This arena has died down a ton since the early fights. Garcia closes the distance and cracks Swick with a combination. This fight has slowed to a crawl. Garcia changes levels for a double and gets it, settling in Swick's half guard. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 for Garcia.

Round 3: Swick storms to the center and paws out his cage. Garcia still in stalk mode, but very little offense coming from either man. The Irish fans are starting to sing just to amuse themselves at this point. Garcia whiffs on an overhand right. Garcia wades inside and cracks Swick with a left. Garcia dives low, hoists Swick up in the air, then plants him on his back. Garcia stands then dive-bombs into Swick's half guard. Garcia methodically works into mount.
