Morning Report: Chris Weidman predicts Conor McGregor stops Jose Aldo in second round at UFC 189

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

Chris Weidman, don't tell me they got to you, too?

You'd think maybe UFC champs would stick together, but it sounds like the Conor McGregor Kool-Aid has reached Long Island.

Speaking with FOX Sports, the UFC middleweight champion is not only picking No. 1 featherweight contender Conor McGregor to beat Jose Aldo at UFC 189, he's picking the Irishman to stop the champ early.

"I love Aldo," said Weidman. "I'm a big fan of Aldo but I think McGregor's winning the fight. I think [McGregor] finishes him, TKO. End of the second round.

"It's crazy. Trust me, I know the world's going to end if he wins the fight. Everybody wants to see [McGregor] lose, besides the UFC. I think he's just so big for the weight. Very athletic, big and confident. I think those are his biggest attributes."

Weidman admits he was impressed with Aldo's title defense to a game Chad Mendes in October, but isn't happy with some of the champ's recent headlines.

"Doesn't seem like a lot's going on with Aldo," said Weidman. "I don't know. This drug test thing. His coach [Andre Pederneiras] is talking about retirement. Maybe [Aldo's] head isn't 100 percent into the game.

"It's fine because Aldo's coming off one of the most impressive wins, I thought, of his career against Chad Mendes. I feel like he showed a lot in that fight, but for some reason I still think he loses this fight."

Aldo defends his title to McGregor July 11 in the main event at UFC 189 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

FANPOST OF THE DAY

Today's Fanpost of the Day comes via Split4u.

Are Brazilians really more likely to find excuses for their losses?

I am not the PC type of guy or the type that gets offended by everything, but I think people should at least back up the statement by facts. Are Brazilians really more likely to finds excuses for their losses?

Basically now just being a Brazilian is an argument for anything wrong (I am not Brazilian). The Aldo and now Machida situation highlight that.

Is the Aldo situation shady? A bit, but people's basic argument before anything was revealed was that Aldo was Brazilian and tested in Brazil. Out of the blue, Aldo is now a potential PED user.
