Gabriel Benitez vs. Clay Collard
Round 1: Mario Yamasaki is your referee for the first fight of UFC 188. Tijuana's Benitez got a huge pop when he came out. Southpaw Benitz catches Collard right off the bat and drops him! But Collard is tough, he recovers. Low kick from Benitez again brings Collard down. But he bounces back up and swings again. Great start for the Mexican. Some redness on Collard's chest and around his ribs already. Nice one-two combo followed up by leg kick from Collard. Benitez returns a leg kick right after he changed his stance. Good kick to the body from Benitez, as he continues to lay waste to Collard's rib cage; now Collard fires a big flurry and blasts Benitez on the cage. Dirty boxing, and oops -- big groin shot halts action. Collard came in low, and Benitez is walking it off. BAck at it. Nice counter from Benitez, and he does an inside leg kick on the break. Now Benitez snatches a standing guillotine, and it's close! But Collard slips out, and now he's got Benitez's back. Whoa. Now Collard is going for a rear naked choke of his own, while Benitez (perhaps tired from the adrenaline on that attempt) is fending. Benitez just crawled out, but Collard hanging on. Benitez lands a big elbow to Collard's face. Now Benitez stands up, and Collard snatches him on the fence, and they toil there. Huge suplex from Collard, and Benitez whiplashes off canvas. Now Benitez gets up, and shoves Collard to the fence. Whoa. They clinch on fence, and exchange knees in close. Round ends. MMA Fighting scores R1 for Benitez, 10-9.

Round 2:
Crazy first round. Collard to middle, and he dances. Now he circles, as Benitez waves a high kick by his chin. Collard comes in and Benitez lands a nice counter. Inside leg kick again buckles Collard momentarily. Collard having all kinds of trouble timing out his punches. Benitez is the faster fighter so far. Leg kick now from Collard lands, and Benitez rolls out. Body shot from Collard. Big overhand right misses from Benitez, and now he buckles Collard yet again with an inside leg kick. As Collard comes rushing in, Benitez slams another inside kick home. Great game plan by the underdog. He tries the inside leg kick again, but Collard shoots in and takes Benitez down. Knee to the body on the fence, and Benitez gets right back up. Collard with his hands pretty low. Kick to the body hurts Collard, and as Benitez comes in to finish he gets taken down. Collard is on top, but he's hurt. They get back to their feet. Left hand from Collard lands, and then he eats a low kick. Collard throwing up top, but it's Benitez who's the aggressor. Solid left from the pocket from Collard. Tough kid. Overhand left from Collard, and now some blood over Collard's eye. Leg kicks from Benitez. Looks like the altitude is play hell on Collard's cardio here. He's huffing. Might have a rib injury. Round ends. MMA Fighting scores R2 for Benitez, 10-9 (20-18 overall)

Round 3: They touch gloves. They exchange up top. Both guys land. Left to the body from Benitez, and Collard slaps him with a combo up top. The punches are coming out slower, maybe not a lot of mustard on them. Inside leg kick again, and Collard's lead leg is just a mess. Over top comes Collard, but as he wheels away he's unsure on his feet. He comes in again and swings for the fences, but nothing doing. Now Collard trying to score a single-leg, and as he clings Benitez rolls him over and now Benitez is on top. Collard in a world of hurt here. Seems like he has an injury, and he's certainly gassed. Benitez lets him up. Collard keeps coming forward, though, and Benitez slams a left hand into his chin. Benitez is certainly diminished, too, this late in the fight. Collard shoots in and gets a takedown. Again, Benitez is able to stand back up. Collard hasn't been able to do much with his takedowns (virtually nothing). But he drops Collard again on the fence, and now he's throwing some punches. Collard gets his back, and they are on fence. Benitez is fending...Collard trying to catch his breath for submission attempt at the end. Benitez looks relaxed as Collard lands some punches. He continues to land punches from the back, and Benitez throws a "hang loose" sign. It's over. Should be an easy decision for Benitez. MMA Fighting scores R3 for Collard, 10-9 (29-28 overall for Benitez)

Front kick that lands from Montano, very nice. Pendred wants to do a spinning kick, but doesn't pull the trigger. Montano is rolling around. So far Pendred is pushing the pace. Montano falls down rolling backwards, slips, but he's back up. Not a lot of action from Montano. Now Pendred puts his arms out as if to ask what the hell's going on. Now Montano comes in with a flying knee, and it didn't catch Pendred flush. Double hooks from Pendred, who pushed Montano to the fence. That's where the round will end. Crowd boos. MMA Fighting scores R1 for Pendred, 10-9.

Round 2: Herb Dean warns Montano to engage. Whoa. Here we go. Again, Montano circles. He tries a right hand, and as Pendred moves in he crushes a right hand into his temple! That hurts Pendred, but he now has a single-leg and double underhooks, and he's trying to muscles Montano to the canvas. So far he can't. The toil continues, as Pendred tries to open up space for leverage to dump Montano. Finally, he sits Montano on the ground, and Montano grabs the fence on the way. He is warned. But now Pendred is in control. Montano able to knee-up and get back to his feet, and Pendred lowers right back into his abdomen and takes him down again. Pendred like a sludge coming over Montano now. Montano gets up, but Pendred stays on him and drags him down again. Some ground and pound, little punches to the body. Pendred with a strange position, trapped Montano's head in his chest and was torquing -- but Montano pops out. Pendred still in control. Now some left hands from the Irishman. Finally Montano back up, and Pendred just stays on him like Velcro. He is frustrating the hell out of Montano, allowing him no space to operate. MMA Fighting scores R2 for Pendred, 10-9 (20-18 overall)

Round 3: Final round in a pretty dismal fight. They meet in the middle, and Montano side kicks towards Pendred (misses), and now as Pendred comes in he lands a knee and a right hand. Inside leg kick from Montano. Knee to the body from Montano, and Pendred just pushes forward and puts Montano on the fence. He is just a bully in close. Montano lands a knee on the break, and they separate. Side kick from Montano was filled with trepidation; the threat of the takedown is too much to commit fully. Pendred pushes in again, and to the fence we go. Pendred trying to dump Montano. Elbows from Montano as Pendred tries to take Montano down. They break and Montano lands a combination that brings out an ovation from the crowd in Mexico City. Leg kick from Pendred. Both guys threatening to throw, but very little action. Both guys are huffing for air here. Side kick to the face from Montano, but it glances off Pendred, who is like a pillar in there. Again, taunting from Pendred, who invites Montano forward. They exchange uppercuts from distance, neither with anything on them. The fight ends. Boos shower down. MMA Fighting scores R3 for Montano, 10-9.

Round 1: John McCarthy is the third man. Treviño with some demonstrative pre-fight rituals. High kick from Case, and now a leg kick. He throws up top now, as he catches up to Treviño on fence. As Treviño tries a kick, Case catches his leg and forces him to fence. Case looking fluid here early, lands a combo. Case comes in again, and with plenty of movement cleanly lands a right. Now he resets, and as Treviño tries a leg kick he lands up top again. Body kick from Case, and he gets kick in his leg for the effort. Treviño right now trying to find some rhythm. Body kick from Case, who looks polished so far. Double jab from Treviño, and then he misses a huge uppercut. Side kick from Treviño, and Case lands another beautiful combination, a left and right. They get close, and Case again wins the exchange. Everything happening in brief skirmishes. Inside leg kick from Treviño, and he gets popped up top. Now, ouch...an eye poke, and Case writhes in panic/pain. Fight is halted. McCarthy looking at Case's eye. McCarthy tells doctor, who enters cage, that he thinks there's a scratch on the eye. They are looking close at Case, and McCarthy is asking him if he can see. Case isn't sure. Case saying he can't see earlier, but apparently now he can. McCarthy lets them continue. Treviño coms in and kicks Case to the body, and Case wisely takes him down. Now he moves into mount, and he loses his positioning — now Treviño on top. And he's reversed, and now Case in Treviño's guard. Case postures up, and Treviño grabs his arm and rolls, but can't get anything going. Round ends. MMA Fighting scores R1 for Case, 10-9.

Now Treviño comes in and Case stands his ground, grabs him bodily, and takes him right down. Case in Treviño's guard, and has his head buried in his chest cavity. Case trying to step over now in north-south, and into side control. Finally spins around to half-guard, and he's trying to grab Treviño's neck from the back. He's got hooks in on Treviño, and again Case with back mount, hooks still in. Treviño scrambles, and now he gets caught in a guillotine as he reveres, but Case can't get it. Treviño goes to work from top. He hasn't done a lot in this fight, but he's having a good moment here. Case gets to his knees, and pushes off as he gets back up. The ground has been fun in this fight. They go right back down, and Case goes to work on Treviño's side. He transitions to his back with his hooks in, and then slides back to the side. Treviño is wily in vulnerable positions. They stand on fence, and that's where the round ends. MMA Fighting scores R2 for Case, 10-9 (20-18 overall).

Round 3: Case to center quickly, and he lands a great right hand. Case throwing good combos from the word go tonight, and same thing here. Treviño hasn't had much of an answer on the feet. He tries a high kick, but Case ducks under it. Treviño pawing at Case, as things slow down. Case is methodical, though, and he comes in with a body shot and then an uppercut which sneaks in. Spinning elbow misses from Treviño, and then he catches Case with a right. Treviño threatens a takedown, and now Case goes ahead and does it. He's in Treviño's guard right in the center of the Octagon. Wrist control from Treviño, as Case presses in. Treviño was fishing for a kimura there, but Case steps over and now he's in side control. Loses that position and back into his guard, as Treviño slams home some elbows from the bottom. Case postures out and lands a nice right hand, before lunging back to the ground. After a scramble, Treviño is out and he grabs Case's back on the feet. They go to fence, and Treviño landing some heavy knees to the thigh of Case. They break.
