Morning Report: Donald Cerrone responds to Khabib Nurmagomedov's steroid accusations, welcomes additional drug testing

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

Leading up to their lightweight title eliminator May 23 at UFC 187, Khabib Nurmagomedov has certainly done his best to get under Donald Cerrone's skin.

Nurmagomedov has been needling Cerrone on social media since the fight was booked in February, but now he's beginning to exceed good taste.

While Nurmagomedov, a practicing Muslim, has had his fun calling Cerrone a 'drunk guy' 'alcoholic' for his endorsement agreement with Anheuser-Busch, the Dagestani is now incorrectly accusing him of using steroids.

While it might be something lost in translation, Nurmagomedov isn't accurate.

Making his promotional debut at WEC 30 in Sept. 2007, Cerrone submitted Kenneth Alexander less than a minute into round one. After being quickly taken down by the Judo black belt, Cerrone worked out of side control and locked up a tight inverted triangle.

The win would be overturned into a no contest when Cerrone tested positive for the diuretic hydrochlorothiazide.

Typically used to treat high blood pressure levels, hydrochlorothiazide is not considered a PED by the World Anti-Doping Agency, but it is a banned diuretic and also listed as a masking agent. (HT to BloodyElbow)

Some might not see a distinction, but it needs to be made.

As for the testing, Cerrone is all for it.

With just about seven weeks to fight night, time doesn't appear to be an issue. Unfortunately for Nurmagomedov, the Nevada State Athletic Commission might have its hands full.

UFC 187 already touts a pair of title fights between light heavyweight champion Jon Jones vs. Anthony Johnson and middleweight champ Chris Weidman vs. Vitor Belfort, likely to be the focus as far as testing.
