This is the UFC Fight Night 63 main card blog for the UFC event at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va. on Saturday afternoon.

There will be six fights on the UFC Fight Night 63 main card. Chad Mendes vs. Ricardo Lamas, Jorge Masvidal vs. Al Iaquinta, Michael Chiesa vs. Mitch Clarke, Julianna Pena vs. Milana Dudieva, Clay Guida vs. Robbie Peralta, and Dustin Poirier vs. Carlos Diego Ferreira will be featured.

Dustin Poirier vs. Carlos Diego Ferreira


Round 1: Poirier is southpaw with Ferreira is orthodox and the Brazilian is pressuring right away.  These two are already brawling and Poirier lands two rights. Ferreira attempts a double from an arm drag, but Poirier rolls. They clinch along the fence, but separate and while Ferreira is pressuring he's being countered. Ferreira is pressuring Poirier into the fence again hunting for a single leg, but can't get it. A brilliant one-two from Poirier sends Ferreira crashing to the mat. He gets back to his feet, but is dropped again. Poirier closes the show from on top in half guard with a barrage of strikes.

Clay Guida vs. Robbie Peralta

Round 1: The referee in charge of the action is Mike King. Both fighters open orthodox and Peralta strikes first with an outside, lead leg low kick. Guida moves frenetically an whiffs on an overhand right. Guida runs Peralta into the fence, scoops him and drives him to the mat. Peralta lands underneath, but does a good job of posting on his elbow to scoot back to the fence and stand. High crotch lift for Guida plants Peralta back on the canvas, but he's locked in half guard again with Peralta trying to scoot away. Guida scores a leg ride and is halfway towards taking the back on Peralta, but is preoccupied with hand fighting and has stopped scrambling. Guida locks up a seatbelt grip and is kneeing Peralta's exposed body on the right side.

Round 2: Right hand from Guida finds the mark and Giuda drives his way towards a double, but Peralta is still trying to get his back along the fence. Peralta gets to his feet, but Guida is stuck to him. Guida goes nowhere with his takedown attempt, so the two are separated, but 'The Carpenter' is right back on him on the other side of the cage. Guida is bleeding, but it's not clear where or how badly yet. They're separated again for inactivity. Solid leg kick scores for Peralta at range. Guida is deep on a double, but it's still stuffed in the center of the cage. Very, very close round.

Round 3: Guida attempts a left hook, but it misses. That's until a left high kick finds the mark. Guida patiently times a double and it scores, but Peralta stands. That's until Guida scoops him again and drops him with authority to the mat. Peralta is attempting an upa sweep, but ends up giving up mount with a head and arm triangle being attempted from Guida. He gets very close, but can't quite get it to go, but he is throwing knees to the body from side control on Peralta. Peralta scrambles back to his feet, but Guida is still all over him, this time working for a single or double. Guida manages another slam, which puts him back on top in side control.

Clay Guida def. Robbie Peralta via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Julianna Pena vs. Milana Dudieva


Round 1: Both fighters are orthodox. Keith Peterson is the referee. Dudieva tries to dump Pena to the canvas after she charges across the cage, but Pena shows amazing balance and one-legs it to stay upright. Dudieva loses the underhook, but lands a head and arm toss in the process. Pena attempts an armbar, but in the scramble misses and stands. She trips Dudieva to the canvas and moves to mount almost immediately where she starts hammerfisting. Dudieva is getting bodied, so she gives her back, but now she's back to mount. After a steady stream of strikes, referee Peterson has seen enough.

Michael Chiesa vs. Mitch Clarke


Round 1: The referee in charge of the action is Dan Miragliotta. Chiesa is southpaw and walking Clarke down already. Chiesa misses on a bevy of punches and Clarke uses the opportunity to drive him into the cage. Clarke scores with an elbow over the top on the clinch break. Chiesa and Clarke lock up again and Chiesa scores with a hip toss, but Clarke is back up to his feet immediately. Chiesa scores another toss and tries to knee on belly his way to mount, but Clarke stands and they separate. Clarke is getting caught with a barrage of punches in open space, but is able to hang on when Chiesa closes the distance. Chiesa waits for a knee to the body and uses it to score a trip to mount to now full back control with a body triangle. Chiesa postures for an armbar from the back, but moves back to the back.

Round 2: Chiesa chases Clarke down and misses on a jumping knee, so they're back to clinching. They're now separated due to inactivity. Chiesa closes the distance and scores double underhooks, but they're back to 50/50. Chiesa times one of them and uses it to score a trip. Chiesa immediately obtains body control back control. Clarke is hanging on and hand fighting, but Chiesa is spending long portions of the round on his back. Chiesa gets close with one attempt, so Clarke falls to the mat, but escapes in the end.

Round 3: Clarke showing a little pressure early, but single striking in the process. Good one-two combination from Clarke snaps Chiesa's head back. Hard body shot from Clarke finds the mark now, which prompts Chiesa to press him more where he lands a right of his own. Jumping switch knee from Chiesa manages to land, but they're still trading. Chiesa whiffs on a right and Clarke makes him pay. Twice. Now a one-two for Chiesa finds the mark, only for Clarke to score with an uppercut. Very close round.

Michael Chiesa def. Mitch Clarke via unanimous decision (29-26, 29-26, 29-28)

Jorge Masvidal vs. Al Iaquinta

Round 1: Keith Peterson is the referee. Both fighters are orthodox. The two exchange leg kicks, but not much more. Iaquinta reaches for a single and eats a knee for his efforts. Jumping knee from Masvidal connects as does a middle kick. Iaquinta catches a kick and then scores with a lunging right. Iaquinta double jabs and misses with a right, but eats a leg kick in response. Spinning back kick scores for Masvidal, but without much authority. Two jabs from Masvidal and a right drop Iaquinta and he's rocked. In a scramble, Iaquinta attempts a heel hook, but can't get it as is dropped again as soon as he stands. Masvidal pounds on him in the process from guard.

Round 2: Iaquinta is bleeding under the right eye, but it's bad enough for the fight to be stopped. Attempted axe kick from Masvidal misses. Decent jab for Iaquinta partially connects. The cut on Iaquinta's face is bleeding worse and worse. Good cross scores for Iaquinta, his best punch of the round. Hard kick to the body finds the mark now for Masvidal. Right hand from Iaquinta partially drops, partially off balances Iaquinta, and he can't get a single leg attempt. Iaquinta can't get a single leg, so he tries to run Masvidal into the fence, but the American Top Team lightweight separates there as well.

Round 3: Masvidal has switched stances, but goes back to orthodox and still manages to score a liver kick. Good leg kicks from Iaquinta and they're leaving visible mark. Masvidal lands one of his own, but eats a right hand in the process. Iaquinta throwing heavy shots, but they're almost exclusively missing. Another hard leg kick for Iaquinta. Masvidal scores one of his own. Hard right hand and Iaquinta tries a flying leg scissors, but it goes nowhere. Good right hands now for Iaquinta finding the mark. Hard body kick lands for Masvidal, but Iaquinta doing all the pressing.

Al Iaquinta def. Jorge Masvidal via split decision (29-28 Iaquinta, 30-27 Masvidal, 29-28 Iaquinta)

Chad Mendes vs. Ricardo Lamas

Round 1: Dan Miragliotta is the referee in charge of the action. Both fighters are orthodox. The two trade range-finding leg kicks. Mendes is pressuring, trying to find a home for the counter right, but isn't quite there. Lamas eats a right hand and is badly hurt. Mendes tries to drive the head down and Lamas is struggling to move, but 'Money' is all over him. Lamas stumbles across the Octagon and Mendes is back on him, crushing him with shot after shot. Eventually Lamas stops defending and this one is over.
