You would be excused if you tuned in to FOX Sports 1 on Saturday night, saw that Patrick Cote and Joe Riggs tangling in the UFC's Octagon, and double-checked your program guide to see if this was some lost fight from 2006.
But no .. this was indeed a live fight in 2015. And Cote, the Quebec native, got the best of things in their welterweight scrap at Montreal's Bell Centre, grinding his way to a unanimous decision.
The judges' scores were 29-28 across the board, as Cote (21-9) won for the fourth time in his past five fights.
"I'm getting older, so I'm learning some new tricks," Cote said.

Cote dictated the tempo in the first round, using takedowns and top control to seal the round. The second round, quite frankly, didn't feature a ton of action, and was a coin flip of a decision. In the final round, Cote once again controlled the bulk of the round, scoring a takedown and keeping Riggs on the ground. At least until the final minute, when Riggs used a final flurry to try to sway the decision.
But it was too little, too late for Riggs (40-16, 1 NC), who is now 0-2 in his latest UFC stint.
