‘Minotauro’ Nogueira: ‘Everybody wants to see someone beat Frank Mir in Brazil’

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira is still gunning for a trilogy bout with Frank Mir.

A former UFC and PRIDE heavyweight champion, "Minotauro," who suffered a pair of stoppage losses to Mir in the Octagon, is hoping that the UFC gives him another shot at Mir at the The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 4 Finale event in Brazil.

Nogueira hasn’t fought since a first-round knockout loss to Roy Nelson in Abu Dhabi, and Mir suggested a third bout with the Brazilian after stopping Antonio Silva in Porto Alegre, Brazil, in February.

"I would love to fight Frank Mir. He’s a great opponent," Nogueira told the media in Brazil. "After this fight with ‘Bigfoot’, everybody wants to see someone beat Frank Mir in Brazil. I want to fight him again. Fighting him would motivate me to come back to the gym and train even harder.

"It would be great, my dream," he continued. "He just beat my friend ‘Bigfoot’. But it was a great fight. He’s a great fight and I expect to fight him soon. If he wants that fight, we will fight. I just need three months to get in shape and fight him. That’s the fight everybody wants to see."

"Minotauro" is 3-4 under the UFC banner since losing the interim championship to Mir in 2008. The win over ‘Bigfoot’ Silva was Mir’s first in the past five bouts.
