If Henry Cejudo didn't already have enough pressure on shoulders leading into UFC 185, oddsmakers went ahead and upped the ante. Popular online betting sportsbook 5dimes opened a line on Wednesday allowing fight fans to wager on whether Cejudo will successfully make weight on his first attempt for his debut into the flyweight division against Chris Cariaso.
Cejudo, a 28-year-old who in 2008 became the youngest American wrestler to win an Olympic gold medal, has never successfully completed the cut to 126 pounds despite making several attempts over the past few years. He fell short three separate times while fighting for Legacy FC, then subsequently fond himself removed from his planned UFC debut against Scott Jorgensen in 2014 due to medical issues suffered the day of weigh-ins.
Cejudo (7-0), however, impressed the UFC brass in his bantamweight promotional debut late last year, showcasing unexpectedly adapt boxing skills during a three-round drubbing of Dustin Kimura, then pleading with Dana White for a second chance to make the flyweight cut. White obliged, and now Cejudo is slated to fight Cariaso this Saturday.
But first he must best the scale -- and if he does so on his first attempt, a few fight fans may be a tad bit richer.
