UFC 184 results: Roan Carneiro submits Mark Munoz

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

Last we heard from Roan Carneiro, the Brazilian went through three opponents in one night to win October's BattleGrounds MMA tournament.

On Saturday night, it was a much shorter evening in the office.

In his first UFC bout since 2008, Carneiro scored a quick victory over veteran Mark Munoz.

A rear-naked choke at 1:40 of the first round got the job done at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Carneiro took Munoz to the mat at his first opportunity, moved into side control, and then sunk in a deep choke when Munoz gave up his back. Munoz appeared to be out for several seconds before referee Jarin Valel finally stepped in and ended it.

It was the 11th career submission win for Carneiro, and his fifth consecutive victory.

"I train jiu-jitsu since I was a kid 11 years old," said the American Top team fighter. "I'm so happy with my performance tonight."

The 37-year-old Munoz dropped to 13-6. He has lost four of his past five bouts, with all four losses as finishes.
