Morning Report: Dana White says Daniel Cormier and Alexander Gustafsson won't fight each other next, but that 'it makes sense'

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

Unfortunately for UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, a couple of his latest victims will have a chance to salvage their contendership.

Phil Davis called it 'The Ultimate Jon Jones Fighting Championship,' but it sounds like Daniel Cormier and Alexander Gustafsson won't necessarily need to fight each other to get back into the title picture.

With both men nursing recent losses, armchair matchmakers believed Cormier and Gustafsson would be the natural matchup to make.

Admitting the fight interests him, UFC president Dana White explained Saturday night that both men already have fights lined up with other opponents.

"Cormier's got another fight set up right now and we actually have another fight for Gustafsson, too," White said at the UFC 183 post-fight press conference. "After those two fight these fights, it makes sense."

After defeating Cormier via a unanimous decision at UFC 182 Jan. 3, Jones learned he'd be making his next title defense to the resurgent Anthony Johnson.

Johnson earned the shot at Jones on Jan. 24 when he stopped Gustafsson via first-round TKO in the main event of their title eliminator in Stockholm, Sweden.

FANPOST OF THE DAY

Today's Fanpost of the Day comes via UFC IS JOKE Sometimes.

Nick Diaz Vs Anderson Silva 2nd viewing. And advocating a live scoring system.

Hi Fight fans. Wow what a cool weekend, not really the best fights were put on. But a rare occurrence took place. And that was Nick Diaz Vs Anderson Silva. Pretty much everyone wanted to see this, and Dana obliged. It is also the only PPV I currently have bought since last year. And its the only One I will be buying as cards lately continue to fail, fall apart, people almost die from cutting weight etc.

So after my little rant, lets focus on the PPV that we all wanted. Diaz V Silva !! YES during the PPV all seemed well. Brandao and whoever being scrapped was a bummer but. When they were announcing it all I was saying, and I guess 10 billion other people were saying the same thing lol.. Please not Diaz or Silva.... And it wasn't haha.
