UFC on FOX 17 results: Karolina Kowalkiewicz decisions Randa Markos

UFC color commentator Joe Rogan seemed to have trouble pronouncing Karolina Kowalkiewicz's last name.

But after Kowalkiewicz rallied for a victory on national television in her UFC debut, it would behoove us all to learn the UFC strawweight competitor's name.

The producrt of Lodz, Poland improved to 8-0 with a unanimous-decision victory over Randa Markoz on Saturday at UFC on FOX 17 in Orlando. The judges' scores were a pair of 29-28s and a 30-27 in favor of Kowalkiewicz.

Both fighters went through an extended feeling-out process in a close first round, during which they by and large threw single strikes and attempted to figure out one another's range. The second was all Markos, as she got the trip, got Kowalkiewicz's back, and spent most of the remainder of the round in that position.

Kowalkiewicz turned the final round in her favor after connecting on a spinning back fist. Following a scramble and a takedown, the Polish fighter scored the most effective strikes of the fight, as she unleashed a ground-and-pound assault.

Markos (5-3), a Windsor. Ont resident by way of Iraq who trains at Montreal's TriStar, has now dropped two of her past three bouts.
