This is the UFC on FOX 17 live blog for Michael Johnson vs. Nate Diaz, a lightweight bout at Saturday night's UFC event at the Amway Center in Orlando.
Johnson, who has won four of his past five fights, will face Diaz, who has won two of his past five fights, on the main card.

Round 1: Referee Jorge Alonso has the unfortunate task of trying to maintain the peace and order between these two. We're off. Diaz pumping a jab early. Johnson lands two powerful outside leg kicks early. Looks for a third but whiffs. Body shot from Johnson lands. Diaz checks a leg kick. The Diaz taunting begins. Nice leg kick from Diaz finds the mark. Another. Now one from Johnson. Nice right from Diaz is answered with a left from Johnson. Straight left to the body from Johnson. Another outside leg kick. Counter right from Diaz lands. Hands dropped, Diaz lands a stiff left behind it. Johnson repeatedly coming up short with his punches. Jab lands for Diaz and he smiles. He's mocking Johnson and showing that 209 flair. Leg kick lands for Johnson. Powerful right body kick from Johnson finds its mark. Another leg kick. Johnson is turning up his intensity. Leg kick. Huge left misses for Johnson. Diaz lands a left. They finish with a flurry and square off after the bell with a little smack talking. Fun round.

Round 2: They immediately press forward and engage. Diaz catches Johnson with a one-two. Nice jab follows. Another one-two. Volume punches and smack talking from Diaz. Jabs everywhere from Diaz. Johnson can't slip it, and it's disrupting his rhythm. Nice counter left from Johnson lands on Diaz's dome. Another straight left from Johnson hits home. Big combo from Johnson is answered by Diaz with a one-two of his own. Crowd chanting "Diaz! Diaz!" They trade stiff jabs. What a pace so far. This is absolutely nonstop action. Back and forth exchanges galore. Nobody's been rocked yet, but each man has had his moments. Diaz lands a hard left and points at Johnson while smiling. Another! And another point and smile. This is fantastic. Johnson responds with a vicious left counter. Diaz eats it well. Diaz now smiling and waving but he eats two lefts for his troubles. Now a left hook from Johnson finds its mark. Diaz landing the one-two at will at this point. High kick from Diaz. Diaz tags Johnson with a right hook then they briefly clinch along the cage. Diaz searches for a guillotine, but Johnson escapes and the round ends. More jawing and pointing. Excellent round.

Round 3: The action resumes in Round 3. Diaz has landed about seven punches 10 seconds in. Johnson with a nice leg kick. Brief delay as the referee warns Diaz of eye pokes. They're back at it. Leg kick from Johnson. Johnson swarms with a long combo but nothing quite found its mark. Johnson pouring on the volume, but nothing is bothering Diaz. Head kick from Diaz lands. Big left hand from Diaz. "Nate Diaz has never looked better" says Joe Rogan. It's hard to disagree. He looks fresh, quick and athletic, all while maintaining his attitude and style. Uppercut from Diaz. Right hand to the body then another one-two lands for Stockton's own. Johnson with a right hook now. Two leg kicks land for Johnson. Diaz back with the jab. Right hook for Johnson. Some Stockton slaps find their mark. Right to the body from Diaz. Front kick from Diaz misses. Diaz slips but pops back to his feet immediately. Jab from Diaz. One minute to go. Diaz chants from the crowd begin again. Johnson just can't get inside Diaz's jab here. A lunging overhand left misses from Johnson. He's noticeably slowed, but he's still pressing forward and winging punches. Big right lands for Johnson and a scuffle ensues. Johnson with the takedown. Diaz rolls for a kneebar after the bell and celebrates what he expects to be a victory while hanging onto the leg. The fight is over, but Diaz isn't letting go, and Johnson kicks him twice! Whoa! Some crazy extra-curricular activity there that will earn each fighter a stern talking-to in the near future, I'm sure.
