Round 1: John McCarthy is the referee in charge of the action. No touch of gloves. McGregor is southpaw. Aldo charges and lands a punch, but McGregor connects clean and knocks him out with the very first punch. That's it. McGregor is the champ.

In the aftermath of the fight, McGregor is classy in victory, acknowledging Aldo has been a dominant champion and deserved for the fight to go longer. He also noted, however, that his belief that timing beats speed. McGregor argues even if the fight had gone long, Aldo would've been finished eventually. McGregor thanks all the Irish who attended and says, 'We did it!"

During his turn to speak, Aldo - who is visibly trying to hold back tears - says the cross of McGregor caught him off guard. He also says a rematch is necessary since there was no real fight to speak of. He thanks Brazil before stepping outside of the cage.
