Aljamain Sterling was looking to make a statement in his UFC Fight Night 80 bout against Johnny Eduardo.

The UFC's No. 5-ranked bantamweight chose to fight out the last bout of his UFC contract and test the free-agent waters and he did so in style on Thursday. The Serra-Longo fighter from Long Island improved to 12-0 with a second-round submission victory at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas at UFC Fight Night 80.

"I'm gonna call [Floyd] Mayweather out of retirement," said Sterling, who earned his third straight finish. "Bring that guy back so I can get the big-money checks."

Sterling got off to a cautious start, as he showed respect for Eduardo's propensity to throw nasty leg kicks. and Eduardo did indeed crack Sterling a couple times. But Sterling scored a takedown late in the round and took control.

Eduardo (27-10) tapped at the 4:18 mark, giving Sterling his sixth career submission win.

"I took my time," Sterling said. "He's a tough competitor, he has big leg kicks, big body kicks. I got the best time in team f------- world, we bust our ass every f------ day."
