Ripley in Alien 3? GI Jane?
Call it whatever you like. But Rose Namajunas will be going into her bout with Paige VanZant in the main event of UFC Fight Night 80 on Dec. 10 in Las Vegas with a buzz cut.
Namajunas, known for her long, blonde hair previously, posted a picture of the new 'do Saturday on Instagram.
"It's a fight, not a beauty pageant," Namajunas wrote on the photo. " Sh*t's in my way at practice ... cut it off!"
VanZant said in the spring that she would shave her head for charity, but then reneged days later. Someone actually filed a White House petition (a la the Nick Diaz situation) in order to "force her" to shave it.
Namajunas and VanZant are two of the top women's strawweights in the world. Namajunas (3-2) was announced last week as the replacement for the injured Joanne Calderwood on the card that will air on Fight Pass. The 23-year-old, who fell in a bout for the inaugural 115-pound UFC against Carla Esparza last December, is coming off a first-round submission win over Angela Hill at UFC 192 last month.
VanZant (6-1) has won four straight fights and is coming off a third-round armbar finish of Alex Chambers at UFC 191 in September. She's only 21 years old and has quickly become a rising star for the UFC.
It'll be a tough fight for both women. But at least for Namajunas another December main event won't be a hairy situation.
