The UFC 194 megacard took a blow this week.
Michelle Waterson is injured and out of an anticipated women's strawweight fight with Tecia Torres at the Dec. 12 event in Las Vegas, UFC senior vice president of public relations Dave Sholler confirmed with MMA Fighting. The news was first reported by MMAjunkie.
Sholler said the UFC is currently seeking a replacement to fight Torres. The bout would have put the winner very close to a title shot.
Waterson (13-4) debuted in the UFC with a third-round submission of Angela Magana in July. The 29-year-old has won seven of her last eight fights. Torres (6-0) has never lost an official pro fight and is coming off a unanimous decision win over Angela Hill at UFC 188 in June. Both are considered two of the top women's 115-pounders in the world.
UFC 194 is headlined by a featherweight unification bout between champion Jose Aldo and interim champion Conor McGregor. In the co-main event, middleweight champion Chris Weidman defends his belt against Luke Rockhold. The event is set to be the one of the biggest of the year -- and one of the deepest of all time.
