Cris Cyborg vs. Cindy Dandois targeted for Invicta 15 in January

Cris Cyborg's return to the cage is set.

The dominant knockout artist will likely face Cindy Dandois at Invicta FC 15 on Jan. 16 in Costa Mesa, Calif., Invicta president Shannon Knapp announced Monday on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. It could be Cyborg's first attempt to drop to a 140-pound catchweight.

Knapp said the opponent is subject to change, as is the weight class.

Cyborg (14-1, 1 NC) has not lost since her first career fight in 2005. She has won four straight via knockout in Invicta and is the reigning Invicta women's featherweight champion. The Brazilian star, whose contract is with Zuffa, is leaving 145 pounds in an attempt to reach 135, so she can compete in the UFC.

A fight with Ronda Rousey was on the horizon before Rousey was knocked out by Holly Holm earlier this month at UFC 193. It's unclear if the UFC will attempt to put together a fight between Cyborg and Holm at some point. Cyborg, 30, is coming off a 45-second TKO of Faith Van Duin at Invicta 13 in July.

Dandois (6-2), a teammate of Miesha Tate at Xtreme Couture, is coming off a second-round submission win over Megan Anderson in September.

Headlining the event will be a strawweight title fight between champion Livia Renata Souza and DeAnna Bennett. In an important women's bantamweight fight, Irene Aldana will take on Raquel Pa'aluhi. Also on the card, Ultimate Fighter alum Lisa Ellis will return to Invicta against Amber Brown and TUF alum Angela Hill will make her Invicta debut against Jodie Esquibel.

The card will be held at The Hangar at the Orange County Fair & Events Center.
