Holly Holm on knockout finish of Ronda Rousey: 'I did visualize the kick being there'

When Holly Holm said she visualized the victory over Ronda Rousey before UFC 193, many fans and critics chuckled and snorted at the notion.

When Holm stone-cold knocked out Rousey Saturday evening at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia, and reiterated those sentiments, nobody second-guessed her anymore.

"I visualized if the head kick was there to go for it," Holm said in the UFC 193 post-fight press conference. "We didn't want to go out of our way searching for it. I didn't want to force it. She [Rousey] can come straight forward, and with your legs in the air with someone coming straight forward, you can be off balance like that, so there's times to use them and times to not."

"If it was there, I wanted to take it, and it was there."

Holm's pre-fight visualizations proved valuable, as she saw a variety of situations play out in her head ahead of time, allowing her to formulate the proper counters and retaliations.

"There were a lot of things going through my mind, and I just wanted to make sure that I was focused every minute of the fight, and that's [the head kick is] one of the things I would think about," she said. "I did visualize the kick being there, and I also visualized myself being in other situations in the fight because I didn't want to get in there and it be brand new. I wanted it to be something that I'd already ran through my mind and respond in a correct way."
