The UFC has added a pair of bouts to different events in January.
Scheduled for Jan. 2 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena, UFC 195 will feature a featherweight clash between Brian Ortega and Diego Brandao, while lightweights Beneil Dariush and Mairbek Taisumov meet at UFC Fight Night 81 Boston on Jan. 17.
Undefeated in MMA, Ortega (9-0, 1 NC) looks for his second UFC win after stopping Thiago Tavares in a thrilling contest in June. In his previous UFC appearance, Ortega had his submission victory over Mike De La Torre overturned after testing positive for drostanolone.
Winner of the 14th season of The Ultimate Fighter in 2011, Brandao (20-10) looks for his third straight victory after scoring first-round stoppages over Jimy Hettes and Katsunori Kikuno earlier this year, improving to 5-3 since beating Dennis Bermudez to win the reality show.
UFC 195 will be headlined by a welterweight showdown between champion Robbie Lawler and former interim champion Carlos Condit.
Dariush (12-1), a training partner of lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos at Kings MMA, attempts on Jan. 17 to win his sixth fight in a row after beating the likes of Jim Miller, Michael Johnson, and Daron Cruickshank.
Taisumov (24-5) scored three vicious knockouts over Alan Patrick, Tony Christodoulou and Marcin Bandel to rebound from his only loss under the UFC banner, a unanimous decision against Michel Prazeres in 2014.
The UFC’s trip to TD Garden in Boston will be headlined by a bantamweight title bout between reigning champion T.J. Dillashaw and former titleholder Dominick Cruz.
